Committed to working collaboratively for the future of Banff.

GOALS

  • A Council that works respectfully together.

  • A cohesive voice for residents & business.

  • Respecting cross-jurisdictional issues with Parks Canada.

  • Visitation growth and Town capacity.

  • Meaningful community consultation.

Why Me?

I am committed to following through on the objectives I have listed, and I will continue to share my recommendations to address the needs of our community. These are not just campaign promises. If elected, I will engage with my fellow Council members and work to ensure that we all have the necessary information to make informed decisions. I hope that our next Banff Council will not feel obligated to adhere to the status quo, but will instead vote for or against a motion with confidence and with respect from those who may disagree.

Certainly, Banff faces far more issues than what I have articulated above, but we need to start somewhere. The opportunity to secure housing is directly related to receiving a living wage. We can build all we want, but first we need to determine what affordable really means in Banff. We need to address daycare availability, and businesses require an incentive to participate. Senior services and senior housing options, library funding, and fiscal responsibility to reduce taxes are all priorities that require careful consideration and action. Not everyone in Banff has the same priorities, so it is the Council's job to sift through and prioritize the most critical issues.

I have a track record of addressing issues and achieving necessary changes by listening to those who will be affected by these decisions. I realize that the Council cannot please everyone all the time, but achieving a consensus based on what voters want should be the overarching goal.

Stalling tactics are all too common, such as requesting more studies and plans, pushing decisions down the road. Even when a potential solution is not perfect, we need to strengthen our ability to tackle recurring issues, using the best information available. We need to take action. Not every potential solution is perfect, but many are easily reversible, such as suggestions on traffic restrictions. There is little to lose by trying. Major capital projects are quite different.

I hope that you will consider voting for me as our community selects those who will have the privilege of guiding Banff’s future for the next four years.

Marc Ledwidge moved to Banff in the spring of 1981. He worked for Parks Canada for 33 years, where his career started as a backcountry warden patrolling by horseback to every corner of Banff National Park. A passion for climbing and skiing came naturally, and during the winter months, he worked on avalanche control at the Lake Louise Ski Area.  Marc’s decision to become qualified as a certified mountain guide led to a position on Parks Canada’s mountain rescue and avalanche safety program. He is honoured to have worked with and contributed to this group of wardens and mountaineers.  When he retired from Parks, he was leading significant organizational changes for that program and its future success.

Marc has travelled the world for work, including guiding, helicopter rescue work, and a brief assignment with the mountain rescue team in Chamonix, France.  He is bilingual.  Once he retired from Parks, he was elected President of the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides, a volunteer position that lasted three terms for six years.

Today, Marc enjoys volunteering with Community Cruisers, a non-profit that promotes cycling in Banff and Canmore and recycles bikes into the communities.   Along with other volunteers, he can often be found at “The Hub” at the Fenlands, where, thanks to the support of the Wim and Nancy Pauw Foundation, bikes are restored, repaired, and sold for reuse.

Vote Marc Ledwidge for Banff Town Council

Pictured here with his loyal friend Oeufy, Marc is a good listener and, if elected, will do his best to address the valid concerns of residents, business owners, seniors, visitors and newcomers.
